True Life: I'm a Product Junkie

Amerikan Goddess's Products

This semester, I was given the pleasure and opportunity to try out a few of Amerikan Goddess's products. As product junkie, I was very anxious and eager to try these goodies out. I wanted to make sure I used them for at least a month before giving my honest review on them.

A little background info on the company Amerikan Goddess, all of their products are 100% natural and handcrafted. Amerikan Goddess works to create products that relaxes the body, mind, and soul from the stress of everyday life. Their products includes candles, soaps, sugar scrubs, & lip balms. If you are in the Tallahassee area, you can now find their products at the Art of the Catwalk. They can also be found and contacted on their website Amerikan GoddessTwitter page.

So, let's start with my favorite product in the bunch; the Strawberry Margarita Whipped Sugar Souffle Moisturizing Sugar Scrub. This moisturizing sugar scrub was just heavenly. I used both in and out the shower. After showering or while I was in the shower, I simply massaged the scrub onto my body until all the sugar bits went away. It left my skin feeling incredibly soft. What I love the most about this product was how it is able to exfoliate and seal in moisturize at the same time. The smell is not overpowering at all, and gives you this pleasant earthy scent throughout the day. If you feel that your skin is lacking moisture and softness, then this is the product for you. If you are interested in trying it out but not wanting to get the larger sizes, you can purchase the travel size for only $3.75.

Ingredients: Shea Butter, Raw Cane Sugar, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Fragrance, Vitamin E Oil, Rosemary Extract.

Product Description: Stay sweet with a moisturizing sugar souffle! A sugar souffle is a sugar scrub with added skin loving ingredients.

  • Exfoliates
  • Seals in Moisture
  • Lovely Scent
  • Natural Ingredients
  • Affordable
  • Sugar bits take awhile to go away

Another goodie I got to try out, is the Glass Jar Candle. For all you candle lovers out there, this scented candle is for you! I used the candle on numerous occasions and it's still lasting. What I enjoyed about this particular candle was not only the scent but how even once the candle was no longer lit the scent still lingered in the room. This candle has a fruity, strawberry, delectable aroma to it. This candle is a nice way to drown out a long day at school or work. I especially loved using it on days I was doing some heavy house cleaning. I'm not too fond of a bleach smelling house, so I would light this candle right before getting down to the nitty gritty. You cannot go wrong with product and it's only $5.

Product Description: Light Your Life with one of these amazingly scented candles handmade by Amerikan Goddess! A variety of scents are available.

  • Delightful Aroma
  • Long Lasting
  • Homemade
  • Affordable
  • None

Next Up, is the Oatmeal, Honey, & Almond Soap. I did not too much care for this soap at all. Being that I love my soaps with strong scents to them, I was a bit disappointed that this soap did not have one. Don't get me wrong the soap did its job, my body was as clean as can be. It most certainly nourished my skin as it describes. I just would have liked it more if there was a stronger smell to it. However, if you are someone who does not care for heavily scented soaps, then you may find this to be something you would enjoy. For a pretty large block of soap you can get this item for $4.99.

Ingredients: Water, Coconut Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Shea Butter, Oatmeal Flakes, Lanolin, Fragrance

Product Description: Treat your skin to a luxurious, skin nourishing and exfoliating bar of soap.

  • Cleans and Nourishes Skin
  • Homemade
  • No Overbearing Scent (for those who prefer soaps that are not heavy scented)
  • Affordable

  • No Scent (for those who prefer soaps with some kind of strong scent)

Lastly, are the Wax Tarts. Unfortunately, I have not been able to try these out yet because I do not own a wax warmer. Nonetheless, I will be on the lookout for one and will return with a review on this item.

Product Description: Want to try something new? Try a Wax Tart! Wax Tarts are just like wickless candles. All you have to do is warm the wax in a wax burner.

I'm thrilled that I was given the chance to sample some of the goodies from Amerikan Goddess, and would definitely purchase some of these items. Natural Hair Blues: Preserving the Straight

Since I do not straighten my hair often, my hair isn't "trained" to stay straight, nor do I want it to. However, when I do get my hair straightened, I like to last more than a couple hours. In the past, I could never get my straightened hair to last past a day let alone a week. So, I was very surprise that my hair made it this far and still is holding up in this humidity.

This time I decided to try one of my line sister's ideas for trying to preserve the straight hair. She suggested using rollers for those who do not want to use heat again on their already straightened hair. Before, I would try to wrap my hair like I did back in high school (total fail), by the end of the day my hair would be a big poof. I tried her method instead and loved how my hair came out. I didn't even comb out the curls, I just let them fall. As the day went on they curls began to get bigger and but not too crazy looking.

Length Check: July 2012

I know it's been a minute since my last post but I'm back in action! July 12th marked my 5th year Nappiversary. I can't believe it's been 5 years already; time surely does pass us by. I wanted to have my hair straightened for my anniversary but due to lack of funds,I had to wait till this week. Yesterday I had my hair washed, conditioned, straighten, trimmed, and styled for $62. For those in Tallahassee curious where I got it down at, I let Ashley at the Rattlers Edge on campus do it. She's the only person other than a select few of my friends I let touch my hair with a flat iron. She's very understanding to any concerns you may have about what she is doing and doesn't mind you asking questions. I really appreciate that in a hair stylist. If you go, tell her I sent you!

Now of course you know I had to take some photos for you guys, so I have plenty. I was very impressed with my length now from the last time I had my hair straightened and trimmed (January 2012). I was extremely happy that she didn't have to cut too much of my hair off as well. am very pleased with my results and definitely will be back in January.

No Excuses: World's Fastest Workout

True Life: I'm a Product Junkie

Africa's Best Organics Kids Extra Virgin Olive Oil Plus Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion

So, I've been trying to use what I already have underneath my sink and avoid spending more money on hair products since I already have so many. Unfortunately, my hair has not been responding well with some of these products at all. I usually like to always have a bottle of Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner underneath my sink but I haven't been able to get my hands on one near by.

I came across this product while shopping for groceries in Winn-Dixie. I had no intentions of buying any hair products but I always seem to get pulled into the hair section at any store. I had already seen great reviews on this products awhile back but I was kind of anti beauty supply store products and never tried it out until now. When I tell you it was love at first use, I mean it! I can not believe that I never tried this before. It does everything it says it does. As soon as this product touched my hair I got excited. I actually enjoyed doing my hair because it was so easy to get through. I'm not one for selling dreams, this product right here is the truth and I will definitely be purchasing again.
I used this product on wet hair, I have yet to try it on dry hair. It made my hair feel very slippery making it easy to part and separate; I felt like I still had conditioner on my hair. My hair felt incredible soft and moisturized. I paid for $6.29 for it (Winn-Dixie ole expensive self) but I just found it cheaper at another beauty supply store for $4.99 and even cheaper online (as low as $3.45). It has a nice scent to it, not too strong or overbearing. If I had to rate this product from 1 out of 5 stars, I would definitely give it a 6!
